New to CrossFit? Here’s What to Expect in Your First Few Weeks

Starting something new can be intimidating, especially when it comes to fitness.

If you’ve recently joined a CrossFit gym or you’re thinking about giving CrossFit a try, you’ve probably got a few questions running through your head.

“Am I fit enough?”

“What if I can’t do the workouts?”

“Is everyone going to be better than me?”

The good news is that almost everyone who walks through our doors at 732 CrossFit has asked themselves those exact same questions.

Here are a few things every beginner should know before starting CrossFit.

1. It’s Supposed to Feel Challenging

One of the biggest misconceptions about CrossFit is that if you find it hard, you’re not fit enough.

That’s simply not true.

CrossFit introduces your body to new movements, different training styles, and a level of intensity that many people haven’t experienced before.

Whether it’s learning how to squat properly, mastering a kettlebell swing, or simply keeping up with the pace of a class, your body is adapting.

Feeling challenged doesn’t mean you’re failing.

It means you’re learning.

The first few weeks are all about building confidence and developing good movement patterns—not being the best in the class.

2. Everyone Starts Somewhere

It’s easy to look around the gym and think everyone else knows exactly what they’re doing.

What you don’t see is that every experienced member was once a complete beginner.

They all had a first class.

They all scaled workouts.

They all wondered if they were doing movements correctly.

The difference is they kept coming back.

At 732 CrossFit, our community understands what it’s like to be new because they’ve all been there themselves.

That’s why you’ll often find members cheering each other on, offering encouragement, and celebrating everyone’s progress—not just the fastest times or heaviest lifts.

3. Scaling Isn’t a Sign of Weakness

One of the best things about CrossFit is that every workout can be adapted to suit your current fitness level.

This is called scaling.

Scaling allows beginners and experienced athletes to train side by side while each getting the right challenge for their ability.

That might mean:

  • Using lighter weights.
  • Reducing the number of repetitions.
  • Choosing an alternative movement.
  • Adjusting the workout time.

Scaling isn’t taking the easy option.

It’s how smart athletes train.

By choosing the right version of the workout, you’ll improve your technique, recover better, and make steady progress without increasing your risk of injury.

4. Muscle Soreness Is Normal

If your legs ache after your first few classes, don’t worry.

Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness (DOMS) is completely normal when your body is exposed to new training.

As your body adapts, this soreness usually becomes less noticeable.

However, there’s an important difference between muscle soreness and pain.

General stiffness or aching muscles are expected.

Sharp pain, swelling, or discomfort that changes the way you move isn’t.

If something doesn’t feel right, always speak to one of your coaches.

We’re here to help you train safely.

5. Consistency Beats Perfection

Many people think results come from one perfect workout.

They don’t.

Results come from showing up consistently.

You don’t need to be the strongest person in the gym.

You don’t need to finish every workout first.

You don’t need to lift the heaviest weights.

You simply need to keep turning up.

Small improvements each week add up far quicker than most people realise.

Six months from now, you’ll be amazed at how much stronger, fitter, and more confident you’ve become—not because every workout was perfect, but because you stayed consistent.

What Makes CrossFit Different?

CrossFit isn’t just about fitness.

It’s about coaching, accountability, and community.

Unlike training on your own in a commercial gym, every session is coached.

You’ll learn proper technique, receive guidance throughout the workout, and train alongside people who genuinely want to see you succeed.

That’s why so many people stick with CrossFit long-term.

It’s not because every workout is easy.

It’s because you’re never doing it alone.

Ready to Get Started?

Starting CrossFit doesn’t require you to be fit before you begin.

You just need to be willing to take the first step.

At 732 CrossFit, every workout is coached, every movement can be adapted, and every new member is supported from day one.

If you’re thinking about trying CrossFit, come and experience it for yourself.

You don’t need experience.

You don’t need to be in shape.

You just need to show up.

We’ll help with the rest.
